sound installation
Succession of timbres with one partial in common is a sound installation for six loudspeakers placed in a line. The listening environment was conceived with designer Olivier Vadrot and presented during Max Feed, a group exhibition focusing on the work of Max Neuhaus (curated by Daniele Balit, presented at Frac Franche Comté).
The piece is based on quote by Neuhaus about his work Southwest Stairwell : “The work is formed from a succession of timbres. Each of these sound colors has an element in common with its neighbor.”
In Succession of timbres with one partial in common each timbre is made of six partials. The base of the following timbre is a partial of the actual timbre. The system is described in the following graphic score. Each rectangle is a partial.
Horizontal = time
Vertical = space (up = rightmost position, down = leftmost position)
Colors = frequencies
